The Flood of Illegal Immigrants
Phyllis Nemeth Speaks Out
No technologically advanced industrial nation like the U.S. which has
27 million illiterate adults and another 20-40 million adults who are
marginally literate, need be concerned about a shortage of unskilled
workers.
It is a myth that Americans won't do hard or unpleasant labor. The
truth is that Americans will not live two families in a garage, or 20
in a trailer, and suffer similar indignities just to sell their
first-world labors at third-world levels. It's bottom-of-the-barrel
wage rates, not hard work that American workers reject.
Millions of illegal immigrants have relentlessly increased the supply
of cheap labor, while steadily depressing the wages of unskilled
Americans; - an unfortunate population segment that cannot afford to
provide for their families under such awful wage and working conditions.
And into this cauldron of shame we are treated to sleazy proposed
legislation, such as that offered by President Bush and Senators
Kennedy and McCain, legislation that is little more than a national job
fair for those businesses and farms that do not want to pay living
wages.
Neither President Bush nor Senator Kennedy has provided a scintilla of
evidence regarding the economic justification for foreign guest
workers. (There is no such evidence) There are 7 million unemployed
Americans, very many of whom are unskilled and directly compete with
unskilled illegal aliens for the same kinds of jobs, - and who have
been erroneously & deceptively labeled as "Americans who won't do
hard or unpleasant work".
When you asked what your listeners could do, I suggested three action items:
1. Register with www.NumbersUSA.com. This is a grass-roots organization that alerts "subscribers" (free faxing service)
to legislation that is pending in Congress. There are faxes that one can send to Congress, the President, etc., "as is" or
modified by the sender, and articles on various aspects of the illegal immigration problem.
2. Call and write your U.S. Representative and Senators. Click on
www.congress.org to find out who your Representatives and Senators
are. Check out www.betterimmigration.org for "report cards" showing
how they voted on immigration issues so you will have concrete data.
Many "talk the talk," but do not "walk the walk," as they have learned
the language of "double-speak."
3. Peruse such websites as www.americanpatrol.com,
www.firecoalition.com and www.projectusa.org for up to date
information on the Internet, and watch Lou Dobbs on CNN for his
"Broken Borders" segments. In southern CA, attend monthly meetings of
the CA Coalition for Immigration Reform (www.ccir.net) and get
involved.
Editor's Note: Illegal Immigrants are coming into the
USA from around the world, not just Mexico and Central America. This
"Speak-Out" came from a listener to the Troubleshooter Judd Talk Show
on the Worldwide Internet on www.AdviceRadio.com Live Wed. 1 to 3pm.
If you want to "Speak Out" go to the TroubleshooterJudd.com web site and fill out the contact page.
