California's Real Taxes
Arnold Schwarzenegger says Californians pay too many taxes from the time they get
up to the time the go to sleep. He says there may soon be a sleeping tax.
Arnold you are right, Californians pay more taxes than citizens of the other 49 states.
Here is a list of the taxes that Californians pay: State Income Tax,
9.3%; City Gross Taxes for small business; Car Registration Tax; Sales
Tax; Gasoline Tax, Bullet Tax; Cigarette Tax; Liquor, Beer, and Wine
Tax; Candy and Twinkie Tax; Property Tax; School Tax, Water Board Tax;
Phone Tax; Hotel Tax; Business License Tax, and Metro Transportation
Taxes.(part of the sales tax).
Now there are fees and tickets that are charged and most folks
believe they are just another Tax for the City, County, or State. There
are City parking tickets, Red light tickets, speeding tickets, and fees
to sign up for traffic school, fees to use our parks, fees for birth
certificates, fees for death certificates, fees to remodel or build a
home, and fees for health inspections.
And yes Arnold, there is a type of sleeping tax. It is for permanent sleep, it's the Death Tax and a coroner's fee.
But yes there are other states that do not have high taxes. The States
of Texas, Florida, Nevada, and others do not even have a state income
tax. That's why Tiger Woods and other athletes move to Florida before
they sign big contracts and endorsement contracts. Now Lt Gov. Cruz
Bustamante wants to push the state income tax to 11%. Also in the LA
seven county area METRO wants to add a % sales tax for more
transportation.
Many states charge $50 to $75 for car registration fees each year, but
California has now tripled vehicle registration fees so it will cost
may people from $150 to $650 just to get the small sticker for the
license plate. Some state tell welfare mothers with children to move to
California because with all the welfare benefits that California pays a
family of four will get almost $19,000 a year.
I am sure I have left out some California Taxes and some state,
county, and City fees. These taxes and fees plus the high cost of
Workmen's compensation are driving many small and large businesses out
of state.
