Travel Insurance

Travel insurance, is it a good deal and what does it cover? Travel insurance is normally a good protection, especially if you are paying $2000 or $5,000 and up for a vacation like a cruise. It will cost you about five to seven percent of the cost of the trip. A policy for a $5,000 cruise would cost about $250, that's about five-percent.

I recommend you buy the insurance from a third party established insurance company. Always read the complete policy and all the exceptions. On family policies it should include everyone who may get sick just before the trip and on the trip.

There are separate medical insurance policies a traveler can take for medical emergencies on the trip or cruise. These policies should provide for immediate medical removal from the cruise line or vacationing city. Also, include a flight with medical personal to a hospital or medical facility of your choice in or out of the USA. These policies can cost up to about $300 a year.

These travel policies can also include insurance for weather problems on a cruise or at a city where you are vacationing. But read the small print, if a storm hits the city where you are staying it must be an official named Hurricane with winds at or more than 70 mph. Heavy rain is not normally included unless flooding would close your hotel. Ask many questions, but make sure it is all in writing before you sign and pay for the travel insurance that will protect the cost of your vacation.

Do I think it is a good investment, yes.
