You Pay, City Brags
The City of Los
Angeles like many other major cities, uses taxpayer money to tell the
taxpayer just how great of a job the city workers are doing. If they
were doing it the taxpayer would know.
The LAPD is now paying employees to blog on the Internet
for them. Many of the stories are talking about what a good job they
do or will do if they can find some more officers to work for them.
They are using the blog for recruiting. How much is this blogging
costing the taxpayer? With the blogging money how many cops could we
put on the streets? New York City has about 45,000 police officers,
we have about 11,000 and only about 4,000 per shift, and that includes
all the trained officers who ride a desk or answer phones. What the
city of LA needs is more officers on the streets not personnel
blogging, or doing PR work for the media and the City of LA's Cable TV
Station. There is an entire LAPD section that does nothing but Media
PR, and most of these employees are sworn officers. WHY? We have more
than 100 new parked-police units, and no cops to drive them. WHY?
The City of LA has its own cable TV station and it produces news shows
every week. Most of the reports are done about the good works of a
City Council Person or the Major. There are reports on the great job
the DWP is doing, but I have not seen a report on how the DWP customers
were ripped off by a PR agency. They missed that story that has been a
headline in both the Times and Daily News. The news stories are edited
to make city officials and departments look good. The City is
spending Millions of dollars to have two cable channels and produce the
City Good-Time News. With all the TV news departments and the two
major newspapers in LA why is it necessary for the taxpayer to pick up
the tab for a TV news operation to make the city officials look good.
The City of LA now wants to increase the sales tax for
more cops, and it is increasing the garbage fee for homeowners only,
which they say if for more cops. The City always says a tax increase
or a bond issue is for more cops but we never get any more cops. The
politicians use "kids" and "cops to get issues passed on the ballot.
The voter is starting to speak out with NO, No, No votes. That is why
the garbage increase was not called a tax that would have to be voted
on, it was called a fee and only City Council votes on fees. And the
of course they increased it for homeowners only. WHY?
Since the cops want to blog instead of fighting crime,
perhaps they can answer some of the questions stated above. But
remember there are good hard working cops; the problem is the city does
NOT support them. The money voters approve for the cops always leaks
out into other social projects to make city officials look good. How
many cops could we put on the street if we closed down the LA City Good
Time Newscasts?
